This week: Volleyball

So as my bio says…in addition to everything else I try to do, I’m a volleyball fan and team scorekeeper.

The Daughter, plays for the Aurora Storm- 17U Bolts. Last weekend, we were in Edmonton, Alberta for the Canadian Open in Volleyball, also known as the Nationals. There were eighty 17U Girls teams from across Canada (okay, admittedly about half were from BC and Alberta), and a total of over 250 teams with boys and girls aged 16 – 18.

The Butterdome

The Butterdome

I can’t say I saw much of Edmonton, really just my hotel, the West Edmonton Mall, the Saville Centre and the Butterdome.
Why is it called the “Butterdome” you ask? Well just take a look….

The girls played awesome coming in fourth overall. We lost to the #1 ranked BC, #1 ranked AB and #1 ranked MA team. Considering we went in as the #2 Ontario team, and were the only Ontario team to make it to the semis, we were still pretty happy.

144 And while the girls didn’t get a medal, I did have a very proud mommy moment when The Daughter was called as one of the events All Stars. Or, as I like to say, one of the top 6 girls out of about 800.

Falling Behind & Shiny Things

I hate to admit it, but I’m falling behind on just about everything these days. I haven’t written or even edited my own writing in weeks. I have three “currently-reading” books on my Goodreads shelf which have been there for a couple of months. And I’m even behind on my annual movie attendance. I saw Draft Day last night putting my total at three…3!?!?…for the year. (Don’t even ask about the state of my spring cleaning!)

So if I’m not writing, reading or watching movies…what am I doing? Well, volleyball season is coming to a close here in Canada. (Indoor volleyball anyway, once that ends Beach season starts, but at least that is only weekends.) Last weekend was the 17U Ontario Championships – a three day event in Waterloo Ontario – and I’m proud to say my baby girl and her team brought home the silver medal!! You might be able to see it here in the collection – it’s the thick green ribbon just right of the middle.

Shiny Things

Three more weeks of practice and then it’s off to Edmonton for the Canadian Open (the “Nationals”). Fingers crossed for another medal. I love shiny things!

Apparently this message was brought to you by the number 3.
