July 1st is Canada Day…our equivalent to the US’s July 4, although we tend to do everything a little smaller here. We have parades and fireworks, and most of us get the day of work. Tonight I’ll be volunteering – selling tickets at our annual Strawberry Festival pub as the crowds flow into central Stouffville for tonight’s fireworks.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share with you some truly Canadian signs. (Photos taken by me in Banff at a restaurant aptly named Toques.)

TOQUE – the ultimate in high Canadian fashion. A hat worn year-round whether it’s cold or warm outside, and yes it gets warm in Canada

ZED – how Canadians pronounce the letter “Z”. Not zee, W, X, Y and ZED

EH – Canadian term for right, okay, please, maybe, thank you or how about it? Used after statement or question

TWO-FOUR – The Canadian expression for a case of 24 bottles or cans of beer
