Taking a break…

For the last few months, I’ve been playing a game of medical roulette. Back in January I had a lumpectomy…my second. It wasn’t as straight forward as the first time.

Is there a lump or not? Is it cancer or no? Lets send it to a specialist. Chemo or radiation? Finally, a decision was made to go for genetic testing. And while my husband is no Brad Pitt (sorry, Babe!) I do have something in common with Angelina Jolie..we’re both cancer gene carriers.

The decision made by myself, my family and my cancer team…in hopes of avoiding cancer #3…is a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, followed sometime in the not-to-distance future, by an operation to remove my ovaries and tubes. (Surgery scheduled for July 12.)

And I’m okay with it. All of it.

The genetic testing confirmed what we already suspected due to my family history. At 51, no more babies are being planned so bye-bye ovaries, hello early menopause. And as for the double mas & reconstructive….I get the summer off work and I get a new set of boobs.

Not only is the glass half full, readers. But it is refillable.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer.
Talk later.

  1. My dearest daughter – I always knew you were stronger that I am but now I am sure of it and it just makes me love you more. You know I am here with you every step of the way. Mom

  2. Prayers and positive thoughts for your physical, spiritual and emotional journey. And if you’re having the tram flap procedure to reconstruct your breast, you’ll also be losing some belly fat. Keep that positive attitude!
